What to wear: outfit choices

Be unique. Be stylish. Your outfit says it all. Neutral, black or bold. Your pick.

What do you want to tell to your audience? How do you want people to see you? We love to inspire you in terms of outfits, and let you create your story in one (or both) of our studios. In this blog, we show you how to use colors and stylish pieces of clothing in our studio.

  1. BLACK OUTFITS: When we talk outfits, we recommend black. Because our studio is bright and neutral, black is for the edge and contrast. Whether you use a beautiful black suit, a low‑key blouse or striking black pants, it will always work. 
  2. STATEMENT PIECES: Do not let our neutral studio stop you from choosing bright, bold and colorful outfits. A statement color can be charming, daring and innovative. Let it pop.
  3. WHITE AND CALM: Neutral colors are the most calming. It brightens you up. Blend into the background. Become one.

TIP: Bring different outfits to your shoot. Because having lots of variety in your imagery is super important! There is a steamer and clothing rack available to fresh-up your outfits. If you need outfit inspiration, look at the pictures below.

BLACK OUTFITS
Black outfits are for contrast, power and elegance. When we talk about outfits, we always recommend the color black. Our studio is bright. It has a white floor and is neutrally decorated. You will stand out in a classic black outfit. Whether you use a beautiful black suit, a low-key blouse or striking black pants, it will always work.

COLORFUL PIECES
Are you not sure if a colorful outfit works in our natural daylight studio? We are happy to give you some inspiration. Using a statement color ensures that your visual material remains powerful and interesting. This is because you can also combine your outfit colors well with your brand’s identity.

WHITE AND CALM
Every light piece of clothing, will create a calm feeling in your photos at Atelier Oost Amsterdam. As a result, it keeps your images neutral and calm.
Something that works great while wearing a white outfit, is to not wear shoes. It will make the whole setting more peaceful and grounded.

Inspiration

Play with: our mirrors

Mirror mirror… We all love (or hate) them. But you can create interesting imagery with mirrors without being in the picture yourself. You know, we all’ve been there…For example: search mirrors on marktplaats. We love to inspire you, and let you create magic in one (or both) of our studios. Here’s some inspiration of visitors using our different shaped mirrors.

  1. IN THE BACKGROUND: Something that works great for photography is adding more dept into your imagery. Use our mirrors to create this interesting aspect in the background. Adds a little magic.
  2. CENTER PIECE: Let it be the center of the picture. People love mirrors, and mirrors love people.
  3. EXTRA EFFECT: Photograph your model through the mirror. This gives an interesting effect. Maybe people even look twice.

Something that works great for photography is adding more dept into your imagery. Use our different mirrors to create this interesting effect. We have three different shaped mirrors at our studios. You can use our carefully selected pieces in your background. Make close ups, let a tiny mirror reflection be part of your photo or even try a different angle.

Every photographer would say: storytelling is important. And it is. Photograph your model via the mirror. It will give your photo’s more depth and it is interesting to look at.

About Roos

Roos Oosterbroek – a creative director from Amsterdam – created Atelier Oost Amsterdam. Roos is a brand designer and visionair. Her boutique agency dRaw creates identity design for entrepreneurs in interior businesses. Identity design with experience, by experience.

Why Atelier Oost Amsterdam

Something that works great for product photography, are small details and props. We have lots of different options available in both of our studios. Think of: crystals, books, vases or even coffee cups to spice up your images.

Serene and aesthetic

With soft tones, wooden accents and wide windows this place is a whole new world within the old school building. A place to meet, create and come at ease.

No consessions

As a brand designer Roos created this space with no concessions. Just her vision, implemented in 60 square meters by carefully selected furniture and matching props. 

Guess what? People love it.

Capture your: product

Product photography. Something that we all love. Are you looking for a bright studio to photograph your products? Stop searching. Our daylight rental studios are perfect for lots of different settings. Play with composition, find a good corner, get creative. There are so many ways to create eye-catching imagery…

We truly love all of our by heart selected props. In this blog we give you inspiration how to get creative with product photography. Every prop that we talk about is available in our studio when you visit us. 

  1. Take our crystals or books, vases or feathers. Get creative and take unique imagery.
  2. Let your products get the attention that they deserve. Photograph them on one of our furniture.
  3. Play with the sun, plants and walls. Our space has neutral colors, daily sunlight and draws the attention to your products. Playing with shadow is a way to make your image more interesting.

TIP: be unlimited. There are so many ways to play with our props and your products! If you need inspiration, look at the pictures below.

CRYSTALS, BOOKS, VASES OR FEATHERS
Something that works great for product photography, are small details and props. We have lots of different options available in both of our studios. Think of: crystals, books, vases or even coffee cups to spice up your images.

FURNITURE
If you have bigger products or you just want them to really stand out, use our carefully selected furniture. The small wooden bench, for example, is perfect for product photography. Or use our big table to let your products shine. 

SUNLIGHT, FLOORS AND WALLS
Give your imagery a magic touch by playing with magical sunlight by creating shadows on the floor. Make aesthetic photo’s at our neutral walls. In the morning, we have direct sunlight. If you are looking for a reflection, come and shoot late in the afternoon.

Inspiration

Play with: our curtains

Create interesting imagery with our curtains. We truly love these fabrics and use it every time we shoot here. In this blog we give you inspiration for using our beautiful curtains in a creative way. We want to inspire, and let you create magic in one (or both) of our studio’s.

  1. Wrap them around you and create a moment of peace around the model;
  2. Hold them up and let the fabric flow in your hand;
  3. Use the curtains as a see through, which gives your photo more dimension.

MOVEMENT
Another thing that works great for our curtains, is movement and shadows. We have a beautiful fan in our Living Room studio, to create perfect movement. In the morning, we have direct sunlight. You can play with shadows and the sun, together with our premium selected curtains. 

SEE THROUGH
For a glimpse of peace, you can leave the curtains right before the camera for a peaceful effect. What you can also do, is use the curtains as a room divider. This makes the background more full and gives a beautiful effect to product images.
